How to Cut Off Porn | Resources - West Ridge Church

Return to blog

Matthew 5:29-30 – If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right-hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

Does this mean that if you struggle with lust or pornography, that God wants you to literally cut your right eye out and throw it away? Not exactly…

Jesus is speaking very pointedly, but figuratively, about how to have deliverance from heart sin.

In Jewish culture, the right eye and the right hand represented a person’s best and most precious body parts. The right eye represented someone best vision. The right hand represented someone’s best skills.

Jesus is saying we need to be willing to give up whatever is necessary, even if it’s the most cherished thing we possess to protect us from this sin.

In other words, you might need to do something like:

  • Install monitoring software on your devices
  • Shutdown or delete Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter
  • Get rid of your computer
  • Go back to using a flip phone with no internet
  • Saying goodbye to a bad relationship
  • Move to a different part of your office.

Much of this battle is a technical battle. Here are some great tools to help you filter and provide accountability for your computer, phones, or tablets.
