First Step Devotional | Day 3 - West Ridge Church

Day 3: Sufficiency Of Christ

Have you ever had to experience the dreaded phrase “Insufficient Funds”? Or, have you been trying to pay for something and just didn’t have the right amount of money on you? As we’ve learned in the last couple of devotionals, everyone on the planet, in and of themselves, has insufficient funds spiritually. We simply cannot buy our way into a relationship with God by doing anything.

Or think of it this way – now that we know that we’ve missed the mark of God’s standards, there must be a payment for the penalty. We have mounted up a massive debt and we cannot pay it.  Knowing that we cannot earn our way out of this massive debt, what do we do?

The good news – Jesus is sufficient and He paid the debt we owe. He accomplished this on the cross and we like to call it the great exchange! Christ took upon Himself all of our sin and in exchange, God reckoned to our account the perfect righteousness of His Son.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.”
This truth should help us breathe a sigh of relief. The burden is no longer upon us.

The almighty, powerful God took on the form of a human and laid His life down for us. What a friend we have in Jesus! John 15:13 helps us understand how great a friend He really is, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Pray:

God, thank You for loving me enough to send Jesus to die for my sins and give me new life. I know that I deserved Your wrath, but because of Your great love for me, You give me grace through Jesus alone. Thank You for grace, and thank You for mercy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
