Ephesians 6:10-20

The Christian life is war. That’s what Paul says in Ephesians 6:10-20. Read it for yourself. Now, this might sound intense, but only because we often fail to see every day from God’s perspective. The good news is that He has given us what we need in Jesus Christ to be ready for wartime living. The armor of God in Ephesians 6:14-18 expresses our full dependence on God in everyday life to resist the devil and stand firm. In many ways, putting on the armor of God is about receiving the provisions that come to us through faith in Christ and living our lives according to His purposes. It is about being transformed to look more and more like Jesus Christ

Putting on the armor of God means…
• We conform to the standard of God’s truth (v. 14)
• We reflect the righteousness of God (v. 14)
• We rely on the person and work of Jesus Christ by faith (v. 16) • We rest in God’s gracious gift of salvation (v. 17)
• We depend on God in prayer (v. 18)

Transformation happens when what we believe starts changing how we live—truth begins to characterize our lives, you hunger for righteousness, our faith is fixed on Christ, our confidence rests in God’s provision of salvation not our own works.

However, as we are being transformed by the gospel, we will also seek to share the gospel!

We are marked by a readiness to share the gospel. We move towards those who don’t know Christ with a desire to make Christ known. We see what is really at stake in the spiritual war in Ephesians 6:19-20. Paul’s primary concern, as seen in his prayer request, is the advance of the gospel in the world—that people might come to saving faith in Jesus Christ. Our lives cannot be changed by the gospel, and we remain silent before a dying world in need of the very same message that we have believed.

The Christian life is war, but take heart—Christ is victorious! Therefore, stand firm in our faith and advance the gospel!
