Psalm 119:1-12

Nothing glorifies God more than when His people are connected to Him and acting in accordance with His will.

This requires individual effort to spend time with Him in prayer. When you spend time with God, His will is transferred to you.

Some time ago, I wrote in my journal about my son, Rhenn, and it applies so well to this principle. Here is my journal entry: “I read a quote today from Don Postema, “Prayer is taking time to let God recreate us, to play with us, touch us as an artist who is making a sculpture, a painting, or a piece of music with our lives.”

Rhenn really helped me understand this more clearly. Like he does so often, yesterday evening he came to me just to spend time with me. My wife was preparing dinner, my oldest daughter was outside with some friends practicing cheerleading, our middle and youngest girls were outside as well, and I guess Rhenn needed some GUY time. Although he says differently, he always wants me to tickle him. And, in the process, we always end up wrestling around and mixing it up some. I had the Golf Channel on and after we had our time of play, he climbed up on the couch and snuggled up to me and said, “I love golf.” That was his way of telling me, “What interests you, also interests me.” Eventually, he fell asleep in my arms. What a precious time.

After I read the above quote, I realized that this is exactly what it is like to spend time with God. We should desire to interact (play) with Him. Not for any particular reason, but only because he is our Father. And the more time that we spend with Him, the more His interests will become our own, and we too can say,” I love golf.” Or to put it better, “Father, what interests you, also interests me.” And then it becomes so reassuring that we are able to rest in His arms and hear His heart beat.”

Prayer is an intimate time that we have interacting with the Father, and it is there that we can hear His heart beat and discover what it is that He favors, and it is there that we discover His will.

John Piper says, “God is most glorified in me (and through me) when I am most satisfied in Him.”

Finding satisfaction in God and having fellowship with Him glorifies Him, glorifying Him pleases Him.
