21 Days Of Prayer | Day 12 - West Ridge Church

Prayer Guide: Day 12

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you,
and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus is always extending an invitation to us to draw near.  His heart is to always welcome those who are tired, worn down, burned out, and stressed.  While we are behind on our to-do list, stuck in traffic…again, reaching for another cup of coffee just to get through the day; His message is consistent: “draw near”.

Author Dane Ortlund says this invitation by Jesus isn’t a transaction but a gift. He adds, ”Whether you are actively working hard to crowbar your life into smoothness or passively finding yourself weighed down by something outside your control, Jesus Christ’s desire is that you find rest, that you come in out of the storm.” By placing ourselves under His yoke and learning from Him, we will find rest for our souls.

Jesus doesn’t promise that every problem in our lives will disappear if we hitch ourselves to him. He does promise that like two oxen in a field, tied shoulder to shoulder, He is willing to do the heavy lifting. Author John Mark Comer, commenting on Matthew 11:29, wrote: “An easy life isn’t an option; an easy yoke is.”

Personal Prayer Focus:

If your life feels rushed, as though there are too many tasks and not enough time; too many worries and not enough rest, you’re in good company.  Let’s pray together for our souls.  Let’s pray that we would be willing to lean in and let God direct the moments of our days and own the stress of our decisions.  Let’s pray that God would help us to draw near right now, and throughout this day.

West Ridge Church Prayer Focus:

Today let’s pray for the Young Adults Ministry of our church.  As we pray today, let’s bring our Young Adult Ministry Staff (Blake Odgers and Lauren Monaco), as well as their group leaders and serving teams before God in prayer.  Pray that this ministry will continue to be blessed by God and will see many young adults come to Christ and be all in on the journey to become devoted followers of Jesus.
