Amos – When We Sing Off-Pitch

The Bible was written by real people in real places at real times

• Amos means“burden-bearer” or “one who carries a load”

• God interrupted the ordinary life of a man because he had what God needed for the message He wanted to deliver [Amos 1:2, Amos 3:1-2]

1. Prosperity can hide our spiritual decay [Matthew 23:25-26]
2. God hears the cry of the poor [Amos 5:12, Amos 5:24]

• God is not impressed with our words when our actions negate those in need around us

      3. Our singing to God must come from a surrendered heart [Amos 5:21-23]

• Woe to us if we stand and sing on Sunday and don’t speak about Him on Monday to others

• Could it be that our packed houses of worship could be off-pitch to the ears of God?

[Amos 6:4-5, James 3:10]

• God doesn’t accept worship just because it feels sincere. He accepts worship that flows from obedience [Amos 9:11]

• God is not listening for louder worship, He is looking for surrendered lives
