FAQS: I Want To Help

I want to help, what can I do?

Thank you for your desire to help! Please fill out the “I Want To Help” form.

As a participant, you will be asked to both shop for the family in need and deliver the care package to their house.  After registering, you’ll receive an automated confirmation email from West Ridge. Later, we will contact you with your suggested shopping list and the address for delivery.  We ask that you purchase and deliver the care package within one week of receiving your assignment.  You may deliver the package on the day that is most convenient for you. Drivers will be asked to lay each care package on the doorsteps and avoid any personal contact with the resident to minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19.  We will provide a number for you to text us indicating that the package has been delivered.

What kind of items are needed for these care packages and what is the approximate cost?

We are asking those who would like to donate care package(s) for families and individuals in our region who, as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, do not have the means to meet their nutritional needs.  Each care package should be packed in a separate bag to minimize the handling of the goods. We estimate that a care package will cost between $30-50 based on brand, quantity, and portion size of items purchased. A care package should consist of, but is not limited to, 2-3 of each of the following non-perishable food items, or similar based on availability:

  • Spaghettios and ravioli
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned meats and soup
  • Boxed macaroni and cheese
  • Cookies and chips
  • Fruit cups
  • Pudding cups
  • Rice and noodles
  • Any other non-refrigerated items you’d like to include

Other items you can volunteer to purchase are:*

  • Baby formula
  • Baby wipes
  • Baby food
  • Diapers

*If you would like to purchase any of these items, please let us know on the volunteer form and we’ll provide you with the specific brands/sizes/flavors that have been requested.

What if some of these items are in short supply?

During the COVID-19 crisis, there is a good possibility that some of these items may in limited supply or may be unavailable.  In that case, please purchase substitute non-perishable items that are available.  Anything we can deliver to these homes in need will make a big difference.

God has blessed me with extra time and resources to help those in need. Can I purchase more than those items listed above?

Absolutely, as long as those items are non-perishable and don’t require refrigeration.  Every item donated will be delivered to families/individuals in need.

When I deliver a package, do I need to need to knock on the recipient’s door and have them receive the care packages in person?

No, in fact, to minimize the possibility of spreading COVID-19, please avoid any personal contact with the recipient.  Drivers will be asked to lay the care packages on the doorsteps and leave.

I live in South Paulding and would prefer to make deliveries to homes that are near my house. Can you ensure that?

Yes.  West Ridge Cares is designed with the purpose of neighbors taking care of neighbors.  People who register with a need in the South Paulding area will be served by a family that lives in the same area.  When a person registers on the West Ridge Cares portal with a need, those needs are divided into zones covering all of Paulding County and parts of Cobb and Douglas counties.  Your zone will be determined by the high school that is in your district.  While you can choose to deliver to any zone you choose, we want to make this as convenient as possible for our volunteers.

Can anyone volunteer?

We require that anyone who delivers food to those in need be affiliated with West Ridge Church.  For those in the community who are not affiliated with West Ridge but would like to contribute to this communitywide initiative, your donation of a care package(s) would be greatly appreciated.

I have already delivered a care package to a family in our community through West Ridge Cares and would like to serve again. What do I need to do?

When you register to shop and deliver for West Ridge Cares, it is designed to be a one-time experience.  If you would like to bless another family in need, simply register again and expect to be contacted by our team with another assignment in the near future.
