Genesis 28:16 (NIV)
16 When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”
BECOMING AWARE OF HIS PRESENCE.
Like most people I decided to head back to the gym at the beginning of the year. As a former athlete, I am no stranger to hard work and how to properly use the equipment at my local gym. However, I must admit, it’s been a while since I’ve had a dedicated regimen and I am not as young as I use to be, so I started off slowly on the treadmill to ease myself back into Olympic form.
Once I completed my run, in which the time will remain nameless, I was approached by a gentleman who had a strange look on his face. Once we were face to face, he whispered “you have a price tag sticking out your shorts.”
Although I was running, sweating and panting for the duration of my workout, I was unaware that the price tag to my new shorts was visible for all to see.
In Genesis 28, God awakens Jacob from his sleep with a new perspective into God and himself. Although Jacob was alone and gripped with fear, God met him at his deepest time of need. God was with Jacob the whole time but it wasn’t until this moment that he realized God was always present with him.
Have you ever wondered if God was there in your deepest time of need? The good news is God is always there but often times we are not aware of his presence. Even Jesus can relate to that feeling as he felt abandoned by his father on the Cross (Matt 27:46).
God is always moving in our lives but could it be that we are just not aware of it? When we become more aware of who God is, that is when we will experience what God will do. Let’s not wait for what God will do next but let’s be more aware of what God is currently doing in our lives.
